A New Chapter: Adaptive Recreation

Comes to The Parks Department

At Dickson Parks & Recreation, we believe everyone deserves the chance to play, compete, and be part of something bigger. Since late 2025, we’ve been working behind the scenes to thoughtfully plan and build something new for our community—Adaptive Recreation.

This new program is designed to create meaningful opportunities for individuals of all abilities to participate in organized sports and recreational activities in a way that meets them where they are. It’s about more than just play—it’s about confidence, connection, and community.

Starting Strong with Flag Football

We’re proud to launch this initiative through a partnership with the Dickson Dolphins, bringing Adaptive Flag Football to our department.

This program will be structured with two levels of play:

  • A support-based division for athletes who benefit from additional assistance and guidance
  • A more competitive division for athletes ready for a faster-paced, independent experience

By offering these two options, we can better serve a wide range of participants while ensuring every athlete has the opportunity to succeed, grow, and enjoy the game.

A True Game Day Experience

This won’t be just another practice-based program. Our goal is to deliver a true game day atmosphere—one that players and families can look forward to each week.

The season will begin with a couple of short practices to help athletes and families get familiar with the game, the format, and expectations. From there, we transition into game play, complete with the energy, excitement, and structure that make sports so special.

Whether it’s stepping onto the field, hearing encouragement from the sidelines, or celebrating a big play, this program is designed to create lasting memories for everyone involved.

Looking Ahead

Adaptive Flag Football is just the beginning. As we grow this initiative, our vision is to expand Adaptive Recreation into additional programs and activities that continue to serve our entire community.

Registration and full program details will be announced soon, with a planned launch in August 2026. We encourage families to keep an eye out for more information in the coming months.

This is an important step forward for Dickson Parks & Recreation—and we’re excited to take it together.
