About Us

  • The City of Dickson Parks & Recreation Department provides a safe, clean & beautiful environment as well as updated facilities for recreation along with professionally managed leisure activities for people of all ages, in order to enrich the quality of life for local citizens.



  • The Parks and Recreation Department develops and implements programs for youth, adults and seniors alike. Programs include Easter Egg Hunt, Fishing Rodeo, Summer Camps, Touch A Truck, BooFest, Christmas on Main Street and more. The Program division is also responsible for youth and sports camps held in the City of Dickson.

 What We Offer

City Maintained Parks

  • J. Dan Buckner Park

    Located off of Highway 70 West near Weaver Drive


    Present facilities at this park include:

    • Six baseball/softball fields with lights, and bleachers
    • Three concession stands with restrooms
    • Four lighted tennis courts
    • One Multi-purpose field
    • One playground with safety surfaces
    • Three picnic areas
    • Eight Soccer fields
    • One Paved and lighted walking/running track
    • One covered picnic area with restrooms, five parking areas
    • Two batting cages with pitching machines available
    • Community Nature Trail and Certified Arboretum
    • 18 hole Disc Golf course
    • One large fishing lake and natural surface walking trail
    • Aquatic facility with a swimming pool and 110 ft water slide
    • 60 acre wildlife area
    • Community Nature Trail and Certified Arboretum (an inventory list of trees is available at the Park Office)
  • Lester Speyer Community Complex

    Community Recreational Complex located at 115 Tennsco Drive


    This park has a wide range of activities as well. It holds the Tennsco Community Center. This is a 7600 sq. ft. facility with a covered entry, seating for 700 (theatre style), or 300 (dinner style). It also has a built-in sound system, a 20 x 30 parquet floor, 20 X 15 stage with lights, a full kitchen. The Kitchen is equipped with two refrigerators and stoves, an ice machine, 2 microwaves, sinks and a serving window. It also has indoor and outdoor restroom facilities. There is adequate parking for 300. This facility is available for rental for wedding receptions, reunions, etc. There is a  refundable deposit of $500.00. Rental fees are as follows:

    City of Dickson Residents: $300.00

    Dickson County Residents: $400.00

    Out of County Residents: $500.00 


    This park also holds four adult softball fields with regulation 300ft fences and electric scoreboards on all fields. There are also two regulation size, lighted basketball courts, restrooms and a playground with 10,000 sq. ft of play area with sand surface and the latest playground equipment.


    Tennsco Park is the home of the Dickson Adult Softball Association. This association consists of several different leagues such as men, women, church co-ed, etc. There are also various softball tournaments held here throughout the season. 


    This park also has two lighted tennis courts and is home to the Match Point Tennis program, run by Mr. Wyatt Harper.

  • Tom Waychoff Memorial Park

    Located at the corner of Main Street and College Street


    Tom Waychoff Memorial Park is named in memory of Mr. Tom Waychoff who served as Dickson City Councilman, Mayor of Dickson, CEO/President of the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce, and City Administrator. 

  • Holland Park

    This park was established in 2001. It was established in honor of Mr. D.G. Holland and Mrs. Blanche Holland, who donated a sum of their estate to the City of Dickson for this purpose. We also reserve this park for weddings, reunions etc. For more information contact the Park Office.

  • Luther Lake

    The City of Dickson Parks Department oversees Luther Lake, a 14 acre man-made lake popular for fishing and wildlife viewing as well as walking and running.

  • Lakeview Park/City Lake

    Lakeview Park is where we hold our annual Easter Egg Hunt. This park overlooks City Lake which is a 27 acre manmade lake that includes a handicap accessible fishing pier and boat ramp. It is also equipped with benches for those who just like to relax and read a good book. Lakeview Park can be reserved for patis and other events. Contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721.





  • DHA Community Center

    This facility has an indoor gymnasium with bleachers. This facility is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. We have a walking program open for all ages, from 7:30 a.m. to noon. We also have basketball freeplay from 1-6 p.m during the months of April-October and 1-4 p.m. during the months of November-March. The gymnasium may be reserved through the Parks Department by calling 615-446-1721.

  • Henslee Park

    Come enjoy the City's newest park with over 4 miles of walking, running and biking trails. Opened in June 2023 is the 4,000-square-foot Splash Pad and 25,000-square-foot playground with inclusive and unique features at 800 Highway 70 West (site of the former Dickson Country Club).


    Effective Friday, July 7, the Henslee Park Splash Pad will operate:

    • Mondays 8:00 am-8:00 pm;

    • Tuesday 8:00 am-8:00 pm;

    • Wednesdays 4:00 pm-8:00 pm;

    • Thursdays 8:00 am-8:00 pm;

    • Fridays 8:00 am-8:00 pm;

    • Saturdays 8:00 am-8:00 pm; and

    • Sundays 12:00 pm-8:00 pm.

    The Splash Pad and Playground will be closed for maintenance and cleaning on Wednesdays and will open at 4:00 pm.

    The Henslee Park Playground will be open:

    • Mondays sunrise to 10:00 pm;

    • Tuesdays sunrise to 10:00 pm;

    • Wednesdays 4:00 pm-10:00 pm;

    • Thursdays sunrise-10:00 pm;

    • Fridays sunrise-10:00 pm;

    • Saturdays sunrise-10:00 pm; and

    • Sundays sunrise-10:00 pm.

    Henslee Park, with its walking, running and biking paths and Dog Park, is open sunrise to 10:00 pm seven days a week and most holidays.


  • Dickson Skate Park

    With a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 2, 2022, the City of Dickson officially opened its newest park, the Dickson Skate Park. Located behind Dickson Fire Department Station #1 on Church Street, the Skate Park offers unique opportunities for skateboarders, skaters and bicyclists in a course designed and built by Spohn Ranch of California.

  • Coming Soon - Dog Park

    Using a Dog Park Dash grant from the Boyd Foundation, the Dickson Parks and Recreation Department is adding a Dog Park to Henslee Park. The fenced area is 350 feet long and 70-100 feet wide with separate areas for small and large breeds. Still to come are shade, water and activity features.

Programs

  • Easter Egg Hunt

    With the help of local businsses, the City of Dickson provides an annual Easter egg hunt each year. The city's annual Easter egg hunt is held at Lakeview Park. Please contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721 for more information.

  • Fishing Rodeo

    The city hosts an annual fishing rodeo for kids the first Saturday of the first full week of June. Ages for attenance are toddler thru 16. Please contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721 for more information.

  • Summer Camps

    Three week long summer camps are held each year. One in June, one in July, and one in the Fall. Ages for attendance are 6 thru 12. Please call the Park office for more information. 615-446-1721.

  • Touch-A-Truck

    Does your child love big trucks? We offer a Touch-A-Truck program the first Saturday in October at the Dickson Municipal Airport. Please contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721 for more information.

  • BooFest

    Come join us on the last Saturday of October (Before Halloween) at Waychoff Park for BooFest. Free candy. Please contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721 for more information.

  • Christmas on Main Street

    Come join us downtown at Waychoff Park to enojoy holiday tunes, and join Mayor Weiss in lighting the city's annual Christmas tree. Please contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721 for more information.

  • Music in the Park

    Come enjoy listening to live music at Holland Park the second Friday in May, June, July, and August. Please contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721 for more information.

  • Veteran's Day Concert

    Live music at the War Memorial Stage following the Veteran's Day Parade on the Sunday before Veteran's Day

  • Baseball and Softball Camps

    City sponsored camps typically held the first week in June of each year. Please contact the Park Office at 615-446-1721 for more information.

Associations

  • The Dickson County Youth Athletic Association (DCYAA)

    Manages a T-ball, ragball, baseball and softball program for young people between the ages of 4 and 18. Each year over 500 young people participate in this league with seasons for both Spring and Fall. Sign-ups are held in February. Visit DCYAA.com for more information or contact the Park Office.

  • Competitive Baseball League

    Competitive Baseball League which is made up of boys and girls of all ages which participate in travel baseball/softball. Recreation baseball/softball is used as a stepping stone to provide players for this program. Contact the Park Office for more information.

  • The Dickson County Soccer Association

    Manages a soccer program for young people.. They have a spring and fall season. Contact the Park Office for details. For more information go to dicksonsoccer.com.
