About Us

The Public Works Department is divided into multiple divisions: Administration, Sanitation, Street, Fleet Maintenance, Buildings and Grounds, and Parks and Recreation. Employees are on call 24 hours a day. David Travis is the Public Works Director.



Street



Maintains city roadways and right-of-ways inside the city limits of Dickson, drainage issues, brush removal, and leaf removal.

Sanitation



Removes household sanitation and commercial sanitation on a weekly basis.

Fleet Management



Maintains and services city owned equipment and vehicles.

Maintains city buildings and properties

Right-of-Way & Utility Excavation Permit Information


  • Anyone desiring to work in The City of Dickson’s right-of-way must first obtain a permit from The City of Dickson Public Works Department.
  • Applications may be picked up at 600 East Walnut Street or completed electronically by clicking on the button for the application below.
  • All permits must first be approved by the Director of Public Works, and a pre-construction meeting may be required depending on the size and scope of the project.
  • All work crews and traffic control must adhere to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), latest edition.
  • Permits will be evaluated and returned with any additional requirements as soon as possible.
  • Please contact The Public Works Department at (615)441-9508 with any questions regarding permits.
  • If the proposed work is located on a State Route, contact the local Tennessee Department of Transportation office for permitting.
